Every project we hand over leaves with dashboards, alerts and a runbook. You are the reason that is true. You will build the pipelines, the infrastructure and the observability that turn a codebase into a system somebody can actually operate at 3am.
This is a hands-on role across several client environments — AWS mostly, some GCP, a few on-prem estates that will test your patience and your Ansible.
What you'll do
- Design and run CI/CD pipelines that deploy to production with zero downtime and a working rollback.
- Own infrastructure as code — Terraform, Docker, and Kubernetes where it genuinely earns its keep.
- Build the observability stack: metrics, logs, traces, and alerts that fire on symptoms users feel.
- Harden environments — secrets management, least-privilege IAM, patching, backup and restore that you have actually tested.
- Write the runbooks and hand the keys over so the client can operate the system without us.
- Be on the incident rota, run the postmortem, and make sure the fix is in code and not in a wiki page.
What we're looking for
- Four or more years in DevOps, SRE or platform engineering on real production systems.
- Strong AWS (or GCP), Terraform, Docker, and Linux fundamentals you can reason from.
- You have built a CI/CD pipeline from scratch, not just edited someone else's YAML.
- Practical observability experience — Prometheus, Grafana, the ELK stack, or equivalents.
- You have been paged for a production outage and led the response.
- Bonus: Kubernetes in anger, database operations at scale, or a security certification.
